WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., September 20, 2018 – Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park, a Dignity Memorial provider, is marking its 50th year in the Conejo Valley this October. The memorial park has provided compassionate care to multiple generations of families, and is the final resting place for nearly 18,000 individuals.

Pierce Brothers will host a community event October 13, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to observe this historic occasion and honor the lives of those interred in the memorial park. The event will include an exotic auto show presented by Abergel Motorsports, complimentary pumpkins, and food trucks. Community members are encouraged to bring canned food, which will be donated to Many Mansions.

“We consider it an honor to perform an integral role in our community through service to families, care for their loved ones, and as a resource for events and services vital to the health and well-being of our community,” said Tamara Eacker, general manager, Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park. “We hope that you will join us in commemorating this important anniversary. We look forward to continuing to offer new services to meet the evolving needs of our community in the future.”

The original vision for Pierce Brothers was to serve a critical need in the community while preserving and adding to the natural beauty of the Conejo Valley. Today, the park’s 40 acres are home to ancient oak trees, waterfalls, a cremation garden featuring native plants, and lush lawns. In addition to serving area families, the memorial park’s serene environment provides an inviting environment for walkers, runners, artists, and others.

When Pierce Brothers was dedicated, a time capsule was buried, which will be opened in the year 3,000. In addition, the oldest cemetery in the Conejo Valley, the Russell Cemetery that was created in 1884, was relocated to Pierce Brothers in 1969 to make way for construction of the Thousand Oaks Post Office. Named the Settlers Cemetery, this historical site preserves the remains of 29 Conejo Valley pioneers including Hannibal M. Russell (1890), Sarah H. Edith Salisbury, (1898), and Civil War veteran Pvt. Bryant Hays (1910), who fought for the Confederacy while serving in the Georgia infantry.
