Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce Announces Formation of Endorsement Committee
Thousand Oaks – The Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors unanimously approved an action earlier this month to form a committee for the purpose of endorsing candidates for public office in Conejo Valley area elections. This change represents a shift in the longstanding practice of the Chamber issuing endorsements only on ballot measures or legislation.
“The executive board and staff have carefully considered a policy change for some time. Most chambers of our size and accreditation status, not only endorse candidates but have political action committees to provide financial support for endorsed candidates. By starting with a committee to endorse candidates it shows a commitment to consider this in the future, but act with intentional caution, which is the type of solid policy practice this Chamber is known for,” commented Jill Haney, Chair of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of
Directors.
“Local businesses are the lifeblood of local communities. They are job creators and major tax revenue generators that play a vital role in the quality of life we enjoy here in the Conejo Valley. It’s important for the voters to know which candidates support the business community. The ability to endorse allows us as a Chamber to communicate who the business community sees as the best people to help the local economy thrive,” shared Danielle Borja, President/CEO of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce.
The Chamber will consider candidate races on the ballot this November. Once the endorsement committee selects the race(s) the Chamber will be endorsing in, all candidates will have the opportunity to be considered. Endorsements are expected to be announced by mid-September.
